Libwww - the W3C Sample Code Library

Libwww is a general-purpose Web API written in C for Unix and Windows (Win32). With a highly extensible and layered API, it can accommodate many different types of applications including clients, robots, etc. The purpose of libwww is to provide a highly optimized HTTP sample implementation as well as other Internet protocols and to serve as a testbed for protocol experiments.

Feb 16, 1999: New set of MSVC makefiles for all of the libwww and its sample applications
Feb 9, 1999: New tiny, Web browser with only a strict minimum of HTTP and HTML committed to CVS
Jan 30, 1999: Vladimir Kozlov has just compiled fresh libwww binaries for wintel - available from the IDM Web site

Dec 16, 1998: Jose Kahan announces client-side Digest Authentication implementation in libwww - try it out!
Dec 3, 1998: Number of libwww check-outs from CVS exceeds 700!
Dec 1, 1998: Libwww now runs in the latest Cygwin b20 environment - please help testing!
Nov 1, 1998: Release of libwww 5.2 - a result of close collaboration and extensive testing by the libwww community. Special thanks to Bob Racko, John Punin, Vladimir Kozlov, and Jose Kahan.
